Michelle Grabner is a Chicago-based artist and curator. Throughout a career spanning more than 30 years, Grabner has embraced abstraction to explore ideas of patterning. Her paintings index the essentialism of time by way of compositions that are simply organized, accumulated, and sequenced. Here, Grabner uses gray and black enamel to paint marks and dots that radiate from the center. Ultimately, this elegant approach generates a space that embraces process and physicality rather than imagination and intervention. Grabner recently co-curated the 2014 Whitney Biennial. Solo exhibitions include Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland; The University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; Yale University School of Art, New Haven; and University Galleries, Illinois State University. Grabner has been included in group exhibitions at Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Tate St. Ives; and Kunsthalle Bern. Her work is included in the permanent collection of Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; MoCA, Chicago; MUDAM, Luxembourg; Milwaukee Art Museum; Madison Museum of Contemporary Art; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C.; and Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
