Russell Tyler

RDC

2014
oil on wood panel
40 x 30 inches

Russell Tyler makes paintings that are influenced by outdated digital landscapes of 8-bit graphics and utopian visions of 1960s and 70s science fiction. In RDC, Tyler creates a minimal composition using only rectangles and a single triangular shape. He executes the painting with rich impastoed oil paints, and the final image juxtaposes and embraces post-war nostalgia with today’s reality. Solo exhibitions of Tyler’s work have taken place at B15 Gallery, Copenhagen; Fouladi Projects, San Francisco; EbersMoore Gallery, Chicago; and Freight + Volume, New York. Group exhibitions include DCKT Contemporary, New York; Denny Gallery, New York; James Graham & Sons, New York; and Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art, San Francisco.
