HIT SKETCH · TWO x TWO

In this sketch for a painting in his Sigils series, Will Boone has carefully layered vinyl letters in the word “HIT” on top of each other. Traditionally a sigil was an inscribed or painted symbol believed to have magic power. Through layering and compressing the letters in a given word, Boone’s Sigil works take on the look of a mysterious symbol for which we have no reference. Existing as a kind of language without meaning, Boone’s pieces become purely abstract works with just a hint of their origins. Will Boone’s work includes drawing, painting, and sculpture, and he has shown at galleries in the US and Europe.
