In this delicately draw work by British artist Rachel Goodyear, a complex allegory plays out among golfers, birds, ghosts, and businessmen and women. One critic described her work as “adult fairy tales,” and the macabre mix of characters and actions certainly hints at some dark lesson on the nature of human existence. In 2011-12, Goodyear had a major solo exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield, and in 2013 she participated in the Curitiba Biennale, Brazil. She has participated in group shows at Museum Folkwang Essen; ICA, London; Tate Liverpool; The Drawing Room, London; Manchester Art Gallery; Contemporary Art Society, London; Collectors Room, Berlin; and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Her work will be the subject of a solo exhibition at The Drawing Center, New York, in 2015. Goodyear’s work is in international collections such as the Olbricht Collection, Essen; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Progressive Art Collection, Ohio; West Collection, Pennsylvania; Whitworth Museum & Art Gallery, Manchester; and Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
