Brooklyn artist Matt Mignanelli makes geometric and monochromatic paintings that employ his poetic observations of New York’s industrial motifs. To further accentuate the modern motifs, Mignanelli embraces industrial enamel paint and brushes rather than artisan oil painting materials. In Blue Moon, light and surface qualities are incredibly important, as one notices a calculated and elegant graphic design of matte and gloss finishes. The final work is not only a complex geometric composition, but also generates an ethereal and airy experience for the viewer. Matt Mignanelli’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in Turin, Copenhagen, Los Angeles, Lausanne, and New York.
