Yutaka Matsuda’s electronic paintings and drawings fuse the movement and electricity of modern life with deftly painted minimal works. In Untitled (SM-A), a grayish-blue circle rotates slowly on a background of the same color, with delicate dotted lines as the only available visual information to articulate its subtle movement. Untitled (SM-C) is comprised of a white half-moon shape with dark hairs or antennas sticking out the top and bottom that tick around in a circle, as if it were a clock with no numbers that simply suggests the passage of time. Quirky, yet quiet, Matsuda’s works feel like charming, animated objects made with the language of Minimalism.
