Cumulus Studios was founded in 2008 by landscape designer, Nathalie Karg, and the company offers contemporary artists the opportunity to create functional outdoor objects. The firm’s mission is to enable artists “the freedom to execute a personal fantasy, with its only limitation being functionality and weather resistance.” LA-based artist Charles Long worked with Cumulus Studios to produce this limited edition bird feeder, each bearing a uniquely-painted exterior with the artist’s characteristic use of playful, organic shapes. Charles Long’s work has been exhibited at the UCLA Hammer Museum, as part of a solo presentation entitled Seeing Green, in conjunction with exhibition All of This and Nothing: 6th Hammer Invitational. Other recent shows include The Uncertainty of Objects and Ideas: Contemporary Sculpture, at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; 100 Pounds of Clay, Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach; and Gone Formalism, Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia. In addition to being featured in the Whitney Biennial, Long has received the American Academy of Arts and Letters “Award of Merit Medal for Sculpture.”
