Ry Rocklen cleverly transforms kitsch objects into amusingly quixotic works. Here, he takes the socially loaded trophy and whimsically constructs it into a life-size post-minimalist piece. In Coat Stand Proud, Rocklen humoursly revitalizes the coat-stand form with a multi-column trophy motif, ultimately producing a work that is graceful and formal. Ry Rocklen lives and works in Los Angeles. He has been the subject of solo exhibitions at a number of galleries and included in group exhibitions at venues such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Rubell Family Collection, Miami; Angles Gallery, Los Angeles; and Rental Gallery, New York.
