I’LL PAINT IT BACK TO BLACK: A HARD DAY’S NIGHT

2012
watercolor on paper
14 x 10 inches

For a number of years, Ken Solomon has translated the visual information of the digital world through the traditional medium of watercolor. In this group of works, Solomon takes on digital music through the design of the Pandora app which allows listeners to hear songs similar to those the already like. Through his process, the hi-res display of the device (likely an iPhone) blurs and dissolves, showing evidence of a hand-made image with a human quality that is connected to the songs by the artists he depicts. Solomon has been included in group exhibitions at the Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo; the FLAG Art Foundation, New York; and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn; among others. In 2005, a group of Solomon’s stamp drawings entered the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
