San Francisco artist Sid Garrison carefully works with ideas of atmosphere, organic form, and transformation in his drawings. Using colored pencils as his medium of choice, Garrison investigates how mark making can be evocative of puzzle pieces or fragmented maps fused together. In this drawing, Garrison melds small, leaf-like organic shapes with larger ones, ultimately creating an atmospheric prism that reflects and breaks apart his elegant composition. Sid Garrison’s work has appeared in various group shows throughout the country, including An Exchange with Sol LeWitt at MASSMoCA.
