Wanda Koop is a master at painting the landscape as an experience of changing light. In Moon Glow, Koop’s skill as a colorist can be seen in the subtle cool-to-warm gradation of color that slowly shifts across the canvas, suggesting the incredible shifts in light we experience at dawn and dusk. The pure white light of the moon is seen in a patch of white paint in the landscape below, adding to the ultimate serenity of the scene. Koop’s career spans four decades, and her work has been exhibited internationally. In 2019, the Dallas Museum of Art presented Concentrations 62: Dreamline, Koop’s first major solo museum exhibition in the United States. The National Gallery of Canada mounted a major survey of her work in 2011. Koop’s work is included in numerous public collections including Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton; Buffalo AKG Art Museum; Dallas Museum of Art; Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal; The Shanghai Museum of Modern Art; Winnipeg Art Gallery, and many others.
