Romantic yet observational, Young’s paintings build on the traditions of French Symbolist and other late 19th and early 20th century styles. The timeless quality of her softly painted yet intensely colored canvases comes, in part, from her subject matter, including aqueducts, hedgerows, egrets, and fields of flowers. In this work, yellow-hued buttercups fill a meadow, counterbalanced by gold fields of color standing in for water or earth, both magical and exquisite. Young was born in New York but raised in Marseille, France, before returning to the US to attend Columbia University where she received her BA in Art History and her MFA in Visual Arts. While working as a model, Young began her art career as a photographer before segueing into painting. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout the US and Europe, including Ways of Seeing, Dreamlands: Immersive Cinema and Art, 1905–2016 curated by Chrissie Iles at the Whitney Museum of Art.
