Jay Shinn continues the dialogue with space, optics, color, and light set out by artists like Robert Irwin, James Turrell, and Bridget Riley. In Paradise Highway Veneer, brightly colored bands radiate out from the center of a shaped panel. The perspectival space they generate is complicated by four rings that appear to hover and frame the receding point in the middle. The wood grain lightly shows through the composition, adding textural warmth to the carefully planned, yet playful, composition. Shinn lives and works between Dallas, New York, and Berlin, and his works are held in a number of private and public collections worldwide, including DFW International Airport, US State Department, Neiman Marcus Corporate Art Collection, Capital One Collection, and Houston Hobby Airport.
