Brooklyn-based artist Heidi Hahn paints women in environments where psychologically-charged narratives unfold. Surfaces painted with both dulled and saturated hues provide an evocative context for a cast of figures that continually inhabit her paintings. Her interest in the portrayal of women and how they are perceived within painting’s history has inspired the work she’s has been making for the last several years. The central figure in this work holds an empowering contrapposto stance while holding a gesturally-rendered dog, while an expression of what may be despair and ambivalence is worn on her face. Hahn’s work has been shown in exhibitions all over the US and abroad.
