In his installations, sculptures, and collages, Marcin Dudek employs abstraction as an energetic stand-in for the tension between societal hierarchies and crowd psychology. In these “relief” works, he amplifies this tension with structural elements built from chaotic fragments of tape, paint, and borrowed imagery. Here, layers of yellow, green, and blue cloth tape break into black-and-white photographs of bodies and sculptures, uniting the individual elements into a swarming mass. Dudek was born in Krakow, Poland, and currently lives and works in Brussels.
