Jose Noe Suro, celebrated fabricator of artists’ sculptures and ceramic wonders created at Cerámica Suro, Tlaquepaque, Mexico, asked Brooklyn-based visual artist Nathan Carter to continue their intriguing collaboration to help celebrate the 15th anniversary of TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art. For this project, Jose Noe suggested to Nathan that he completely abandon the traditional notion of a round flat plate and make something that could only come from his sculpture studio in Brooklyn.
This pageant of ceramic sculptures resembling masks or plates or bowls will come with a gourmet dinner, wine, and special tequila, prepared for 15 people in YOUR HOME by celebrated chef, Enrique Olvera of Pujol restaurant in Mexico City. Pujol is widely considered Mexico’s best restaurant and one of the leading exponents of new Mexican gastronomy and is deeply immersed in the republic’s cultural legacy. Chef Olvera, the rock star of Mexico City cuisine, will prepare each course to be served on what can be best described as unconventional dining apparatus. As Nathan himself calls it, “An Outer Space Bacchanalian Sculptural Culinary Especial Adventure Performance”…saludos!
