Adam Winner’s abstract works celebrate their own imperfections and limitations. Created with layer upon layer of palette-knife applied paint, his paintings embrace chattered lines, torn edges, and gunked-up surfaces. Winner uses the geometry of Frank Stella’s iconic Black Paintings which, through their predetermined system of making and concentric black brushstrokes, became an important catalyst for Minimalism. Winner’s paintings, with all their nervous energy, have an earnest, beautiful presence that is always looking over its shoulder at the art of the past. Winner’s work has been featured in gallery shows around the US.
