Carlee Fernandez makes work that explores her immediate family and lineage. Let This Cup Pass from Us depicts the artist, her husband, and their two sons all inside a larger-than-life cast bronze baptismal cup inscribed with Fernandez’s genealogy. The work is poetic and autobiographical, revealing a glimpse into the past, present, and future of Fernandez’s lineage. Fernandez received her MFA from Claremont Graduate University. Recent exhibitions include Wallach Art Gallery at Columbia University, New York; National Portrait Gallery, Washington D.C.; Nevada Museum of Art, Reno; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach. Fernandez’s work is included in the permanent collections of Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Overland Park; and San Jose Museum of Art. She is the recipient of the California Community Foundation Fellowship and the Fulbright Fellowship.
