Berlin-based artist Berta Fischer creates work that dynamically merges the history of abstraction with a nonsensical industrialized material. Fischer starts by running polypropylene panels through a furnace which allow for an origami-like manipulation. With only a matter of minutes before the polypropylene cools and hardens, Fischer composes wacky, yet compelling forms with an inherent transparency. Berta Fischer has recently presented solo exhibitions at Galerie Giti Nourbakhsch, Berlin; Galerie Karin Guenther, Hamburg; and Krobath Wimmer, Vienna. Group exhibitions include venues such as Migros Museum Zurich; Bonner Kunstverein, Bonn; and Museum fur Neue Kunst ZKM, and Fischer was included in the Prague Biennial.
