Quinn Tivey

PLYWOOD/MARBLE 1
2016
uv print on aluminum
24 x 12 x 5 inches
edition of 1 + AP

Quinn Tivey’s recent sculptural works use digitally composed veneers mounted on metal to raise questions about the nature of sculpture, painting, and photography. Here, a sheet of aluminum folds in a gentle arc. Neither of the implied marble or wood surfaces would react to gravity in this way, and like a real veneer, the digitally printed veneers hide the truth about the material they cover. Existing as both a representation and a reality, the piece becomes a 2D and 3D riddle.
