HEARTS NOT AVERSE TO BEING BEGUILED
2013
bronze with patina and pigment with bronze wire
24 3/4 x 7 x 3 3/4 inches

Dallas-based sculptor Linda Ridgway masterfully captures some of the most delicate physical objects – and as a result the most delicate emotional states – in her poetic bronze works. Here, two roses are hung by a spiraling wire on a nail to dry. The title is taken from “October,” a poem by Robert Frost. In it, Frost describes changes in the natural world that take place in autumn and laments the passage of time. Like Frost’s poem, Ridgway’s work becomes a meditation on the fleeting nature of time and our desire to hold on to objects and memories from the past. Ridgway’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions through the US, and her work is present in collections throughout Texas.
