The geometric paintings of London-based Andrew Bick achieve a contradictory sense of depth through layers of wax and paint pushing against shapes laying on the surface of his work. In Variant T-S OGVDS [Compendium] #2, veils of neon green and orange contrast against a web-like grid that reinforces the flatness of the painting. The exterior-versus-interior dynamic set up in the painting relies on Bick’s use of an opaque, hard-edged geometry to obscure a gestural, vibrant composition below. Bick’s abstract paintings have been included in solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States.
