Claire Tabouret

REVERIE (YELLOW)

2019
acrylic and ink on paper
55 x 42 inches

Working on saturated backgrounds, French painter Claire Tabouret loosely paints her subjects, lending them an emotional immediacy and an ephemeral presence. By laying down bright colors first, then adding darker color later, Tabouret instills an odd glow in her figures and landscapes, shifting our visual experience to strange territory, seen here in Reverie (Yellow). Through her use of color and layering, the age-old subject of a daydreaming young girl in the wilderness becomes a jarring, cinematic image. Solo exhibitions of Tabouret’s work have been held at YUZ Museum, Shanghai; Villa Médicis, Rome; Friche la Belle de Mai, Marseille; and Museum Pietro Canonica à Villa Borghese, Rome, among others.
