Joe Reihsen

acrylic on canvas over panel, and walnut frame
60 x 72 inches

Using a variety of painterly techniques, LA-based Joe Reihsen makes paintings in the tradition of Abstract Expressionism, but with a uniquely contemporary twist. Loosely applied veils, sprayed areas, brushstrokes collaged from other surfaces, and computer-generated or inspired elements are just some of the tools in his bag of modern and contemporary painting techniques. In this recent work, a chaotic mesh of smeared, sticky brushstrokes converges into a carefully balanced field of color that resembles an Impressionist composition. Reihsen’s work has been shown at galleries throughout the US and Europe.
