Joining non-representational marks with symbols and phrases, New York artist Gregory Edwards designs an all-over composition that appears to float within the picture plane. Edwards meticulously paints self-help catchphrases, question marks, DNA helixes, and percentage signs to mimic digital graphics that he then covers with painterly brushstrokes. The symbols lie between informational object and abstract concept, an idea Edwards focuses on in many of his large scale paintings. Edwards has exhibited throughout the US, Germany, and Hong Kong.
