Bursting with raunchy humor fully informed by the history of art, Paul McCarthy’s works brim with humor, critique, and self-awareness. Here, McCarthy redraws a collaged piece of a New Yorker cartoon to include male and female genitals, and includes a hand grabbing what looks like genitals or udders. The combination of so much raw content with the self-defeated phrase at the bottom makes for a humorous commentary on sexuality and romance. One of the most important and influential artists to emerge from Los Angeles in the past forty years, Paul McCarthy has had solo exhibitions of his work throughout Europe and the United States and is represented in major museum collections throughout the world.
