Richard Fleischner

CUBE AND SQUARE

2014
wood, cardboard, and beeswax
9 1/4 x 18 x 11 inches

Richard Fleischner’s courtyard at the Dallas Museum of Art is one of the most elegant and pleasant public spaces in Dallas. Like the courtyard, Fleischner’s sculptural works employ an elemental geometric language to express simple spatial relationships. Cube and Square exhibits the same shape in its 3-D and 2-D iterations, set upon a closed and open compartment. Sculpted in a somber brown color, the piece is a restrained meditation on space, order, and architecture. In addition to Dallas, Fleischner has created architectural installations throughout the world, and his work is represented in numerous public collections.
