Dedicated to the traditional studio practices and techniques of painting, New York-based artist Garth Weiser nonetheless creates works that have the unmistakable feel of the present. In Shifted, Perc, Speedy J, Etc., layers of paint are scraped and scratched into a dense, optical mesh that resembles a moiré pattern. Weiser crafts an absorbing visual experience where the physical properties of paint and the artist’s unique process come together in a sensual, optically-jarring work. A painting by Weiser is in the Dallas Cowboys Art Collection at AT&T Stadium, as well as in the collection of the Dallas Museum of Art. Past exhibitions include Destroy Athens, Athens Biennial of Contemporary Art; Greater New York, PS1 MoMA; Expanded Painting International, Prague Biennial, Czech Republic; and LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division) in Nothing Beside Remains, Marfa.
