FLOATERS

2012
collage, found photograph, and vintage poster
40 x 30 inches

New York-based artist Garrett Pruter gives new life to photos found in old magazines, junk shops, and estate sales. After enlarging these images, he cuts them up and reassembles them into newly formed landscapes, memories, and periods of time. In Floaters, a found image of a windsurfer (complete with lint on the upper left corner) is layered with spheres from an idyllic, tropical sunset, offering a contrast between a real and an idealized day at the beach. Pruter’s work has been in group shows at venues such as Gestalten Space, Berlin; Cork Center; Blanc Compound, Mandaluyong; and Society of Illustrators, New York.
