canvas on canvas on panel
74 1/2 x 77 1/4 inches
Building upon the use of shaped canvases popularized in the 1960s, New York-based Wyatt Kahn combines multiple panels to form monochrome abstract works that exist somewhere between painting and sculpture. Kahn’s Pigeon Toed juxtaposes the bulbous outer curves of several of the panels against the angular edges where the pieces meet. The subtle imperfections of the canvas and the gaps formed by the hand-made panels bring out, in the words of the artist, “the errors in process that reveal my hand and the very human experience of imperfection.” Wyatt Kahn’s multi-paneled paintings have garnered him widespread acclaim, with his work featured in numerous public collections, including the Dallas Museum of Art.
