Belgian painter Stef Driesen’s mysterious works hover between figure, landscape, and abstraction. In this untitled work, a warm, gray shape is bordered by soft, pink edges, and the overall color palette feels moody and silent. Oriented vertically, the scale and shape of the work relate to the human form, though Driesen’s composition seems to connect more to an experience of the landscape, perhaps a rocky cliff or mountain passage. Through the simplest of means, Driesen’s abstract work possesses a powerful, mysterious, and evocative stillness. Driesen’s work has been exhibited internationally at venues such as Foundation Maeght, Saint-Paul-de-Vence; Galeria Fortes Vilaça; Gallery Baton, Seoul; The Breeder, Athens; and Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase.
