Shannon Finley

PINKY
2015
acrylic on linen
20 x 16 inches

Berlin-based Shannon Finley investigates geometry and dynamism in his compositions through complex digitally rendered shapes and a luminous application of acrylic paint. The sharp lines dissecting the painting in Pinky become jewel-like facets due to Finley’s repeated layering of gel medium and pigment. Subtle tonal shifts seem to reflect light and create shadows as the shapes overlap. His geometric exploration of the rhombus in Pinky is part of a larger series of works that repeatedly return to three forms: the orb, the rhombus, and the wave. Finley’s style and intensely worked surface build on works of other abstract artists, calling to mind the Italian Futurists, Gerhard Richter, and Sarah Morris.
