mixed media on paper
30 x 22 inches
In this mixed media work, Otis Jones continues the legacy of 20th century abstraction by analyzing one of the most historical elements of painting – the rectangular support. In this instance the support is a piece of paper, oriented vertically (portrait orientation), and Jones has laid down a textural ground just smaller than the sheet. Using black ink, he then applies 24 lines – 22 horizontal and 2 vertical – that articulate and further reference the shape that is their source, ultimately creating a work where the media define the work as the work points back to the media. Otis Jones has work in a number of private and public collections, including the Dallas Museum of Art.
