In his recent body of work, Nathan Green boils down painting to its smallest part – the brushstroke. In an effort to make each stroke convey space, Green paints the lines in a gradient with bright, jarring colors that seem to emit an edgy glow. He says, “I liked that these marks look digital. They are done with ease in Photoshop but emulating in physical paint can be painstaking.” The composition of stripes tilts and shift, creating a dynamic, agitated surface that feels like an utterly contemporary exploration of abstraction. Green has exhibited his work at galleries in the US and Great Britain.
