graphite, acrylic, and color pencil on paper
22 1/4 x 30 inches
Though Mika Rottenberg is best known for videos that show women working on absurd, labor-intensive tasks, her practice also includes painting, drawing, and sculpture. In this dynamic work on paper, a variety of shapes swarm and flutter across the page. Though her drawings do not specifically relate to her video work, cherries and bodily orifice shapes are repeated in FR3, possibly connected to her video Mary’s Cherries (2004) that explained the fictional origin of maraschino cherries. Rottenberg’s work can be found in numerous public collections and has been the subject of solo museum exhibitions worldwide.
