Julian Opie has been noted as one of the most significant artists of his generation. He works in diverse technological media, drawing from a variety of influences such as billboard signs and graphic design, ultimately reconstructing his impressions of society’s contemporary surroundings. Here, Julian creates a landscape that was “painted” on the computer using a vector-based software typically utilized for print and digital media. The landscape is reminiscent of the country in composition and color, and yet urbanized and contemporary in process and execution. Julian Opie lives and works in London. His work is in major collections such as The Goss-Michael Foundation, Dallas; Arts Council of Great Britain; Banque Bruxelles Lambert, Brussels; Carnegie Museum, Pittsburg; Museum of Art Rhode Island School of Design, Providence; Institut Valencià d’Art Modern; Kunsthalle Bern; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; National Portrait Gallery, London; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and The British Museum, London, among many others.
