graphite on paper
12 x 9 inches
Little Rock-based artist Jerry Phillips makes striking and labor intensive works that require countless hours in the studio. Phillips’ drawings often come from found photographs that he then uses as a readymade composition. Using graphite, he projects the image to his satisfaction and creates a unique work with a personal twist. The work Balzac is stark and graphic, and yet incredibly slow in the laborious and delicate process. His work has been exhibited in New York, Geneva, Valencia, Los Angeles, Saratoga Springs, Dallas, San Francisco, Ghent, Tallahassee, Buffalo, and Santa Monica, among others.
