Jason Middlebrook

NEW DISTURBED SITE #1
2010
acrylic and ink on paper
11 1/2 x 15 inches

New York based artist Jason Middlebrook explores human disruptions of nature by using aesthetic tactics to portray man’s uncompromising footprint on the earth. In the piece New Disturbed Site #1, the artist investigates this complex relationship by creating an unnaturally smoky atmospheric ink-wash that contrasts a colorfully stippled flower. Middlebrook’s work has been exhibited in public institutions such as the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas; Arthouse, Austin; Aspen Art Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Santa Monica Museum of Contemporary Art; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. In 2013, he will have a solo exhibition at MASS MoCA. Middlebrook’s work is in the public collections of the Albright Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; Denver Art Museum; Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Museum of Modern Art, New York; New Museum, New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Jason Middlebrook lives and works in Hudson, New York.
