Saccoccio-Jackie

Jackie Saccoccio

PORTRAIT (3-PRONGED)
2012
oil and mica on linen
48 x 36 inches

In her colorful  abstract works, Jackie Saccoccio unapologetically mines the territory laid out by her predecessors. She continues to explore the potential of pure paint in all its forms – drips, stains, washes, and daubs – and she layers them to create a swirling depth of space, seen here in Portrait (3-Pronged). The piece is more open and airy in the center, which produces a depth of space framed by the dark stains and sideways drips along the edges. Saccoccio is a past recipient of the American Academy in Rome Prize, a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Grant, a Monet Foundation Residency in Giverny, and a Fulbright Foundation Grant. She has exhibited her work throughout the US and Europe. She was the curator of Blue Balls, a raucous, additive collaboration at Art Production Fund’s LAB in 2008 and was guest curator for its restaging at the RISD Museum of Art.
