Iva Gueorguieva

SUN JUGGLER
2012
acrylic collage and oil stick on canvas
40 x 55 inches

Iva Gueorguieva’s dynamic paintings challenge the viewer to absorb the varied parts that make up their vibrating surfaces. Ripped and torn pieces of canvas are collaged onto the painting, combined with scratches, painted shapes, and drawn lines. The overall effect is a carefully composed and dizzying space. Smaller biomorphic forms are imbedded in the dense, chaotic scene, offering the presence of a living being in a grand, overwhelming work. Iva Gueorguieva was born in Bulgaria, and she lives and works in Los Angeles. Recent solo shows include Bravin Lee Programs, New York; LUX Art Institute, Encinitas; Angles Gallery, Los Angeles; Stichting Outline, Amsterdam; Pomona Museum of Art, Claremont. Notable group shows include Galerie Lelong, New York; the Contemporary Art Museum at USF, Tampa; Pasadena Museum of Art, Pasadena; and Dunn and Brown Contemporary, Dallas. Her work is included in many public and private collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Minneapolis Institute of Art; and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. She is the recipient of the California Community Foundation mid-career fellowship in 2010 and the Pollock-Krasner Grant in 2006.
