THE BODY IS NOT ESSENTIAL XIII
oil on canvas
36 x 40 inches
The female body – as art historical subject, psychological space, and contemporary social emblem – appears in much of Heidi Hahn’s recent work. Caught in solitary, reflective moments (even when shown in groups), the women embody the modern emotional ambiguity that is so pervasive throughout the current social zeitgeist. In this work, the reclining female (an icon of art history), leans against a tree, fully clothed and isolated in her own mental and physical space. Hahn received her Master’s degree from Yale in 2014 and has shown at venues in the US and abroad.
