EYE OF THE BEHOLDER
2015
glass, 22 karat gold leaf, and oil paint
36 x 36 x 4 inches

The gold, convex mirror of Douglas Little’s Eye of the Beholder reflects the viewer and their surroundings while confronting them with the minuscule image of an eye staring back. This work is the first in a series of surrealist collage pieces that challenge the viewer’s ideas and perceptions of beauty. Little is most well-known for the dramatic window installations and theatrical environments he creates for companies like Barney’s New York, Neiman Marcus, Harry Winston, Nasher Sculpture Museum, and the Dallas Museum of Art.
