graphite and resin on machined fiberboard panel with pine frame
50 x 38 inches (framed)
To make his Drawing Board works, Daniel Lefcourt uses a computer controlled wood-router to machine a fiberboard panel, and then finishes the surface by hand with graphite. His surfaces are derived from small accidents or found textures – often no larger than a few inches – that he repeatedly photographs with a macro lens to generate a 3-D computer model. Lefcourt’s work represents the complex relationships that exist between the real and the digital, the original and the copy, and what is man-made vs. computer-generated. As a result, these dense, monochromatic surfaces are utterly compelling, appearing both meditative and unsettling. Lefcourt has exhibited his work at galleries and museums worldwide.
