LA-artist Anthony Pearson works simultaneously in sculpture, drawing, and photography, often blurring the lines between categories. His pieces often bear a formal straightforwardness where appearing simple is not to be confused with being reductive. In this work from 2013, what looks at first like two drips of plaster is actually a dense and complex textural form. Bound by the frame’s edges, the work exists in the 2-D and 3-D realms, and it becomes a meditation on light and shadow as the piece transforms with changing light conditions. Solo exhibitions of Pearson’s work have been held at Midway Contemporary Art, Minneapolis and Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis. His work is included in the collections of The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; and The Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.
