Analia Saban

POCKET WATCH #2
2013
graphite on laser sculpted paper
36 1/4 x 36 inches

Analia Saban uses basic elements of art to blur the boundary between painting, sculpture, photography, image, and object. In Pocket Watch #2, Saban starts by completely drawing over a sheet of paper with graphite. She then assigns a laser cutting machine to sculpt the image of a pocket watch, an object chosen specifically to reflect the precision and timely process of the machine creating it. As a result, she produces an incredibly delicate and beautiful work that fluidly moves between sculpture, image, and object. Analia Saban was born in 1980 in Buenos Aires and is currently living and working in Los Angeles. The artist recently participated in the biennial survey exhibition Made In L.A. 2012 at the Hammer Museum in collaboration with LAXART, Los Angeles. Current and upcoming shows include La Ballena Negra, MARCO Museum of Contemporary Art, Vigo, Spain; Lost Line: Selections from the Permanent Collection, Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and FriArt, Fribourg, Switzerland, among others.
