Los Angeles-based Alex Prager constructs deeply psychological photographs and films that explore the dynamics of human interaction. The look and feel of her work is cinematic – 1950s and 60s Hollywood era colors and styling. Of particular interest to Prager is group or crowd behavior, seen here in Culver City. Dramatically shot from below, three standing men hover over us, forcing us to ponder what happened before (and what will happen after) the instant the men gathered here. The only female presence in the image is on the rolled up newspaper, raising questions not just about group behavior, but male (or female) group behavior. Earlier this year, Prager exhibited work in Dallas at Goss Michael Foundation and as part of the SOLUNA: International Music and Art Festival. Her work is included in a number of public collections worldwide.
