Twentieth century color theory dictates many elements of Seth Cameron’s paintings. Deeply saturated rectangles in opposing colors push against more neutral blocks and muddied jewel tones. Inspired by Josef Albers’ writing on the interplay between colors, Cameron blends these ideas with Ad Reinhardt’s rules of art — no texture, no brushwork, no drawing, no forms, no space. The title of this body of work, the No series, references Reinhardt’s list of negations. A New York-based painter and educator, Cameron is the founder of The Bruce High Quality Foundation, a collective of anonymous artists “created to foster an alternative to everything.”
