While he still considers himself a painter, Tokyo-based artist Kazuyuki Takezaki pulls elements from sculpture and drawing for his mixed-media panels, giving his pieces a sense of immediacy. The raw edges of the rope and torn paper in 86 accentuate the hard edges within the composition, overlapping the segmented color pencil drawing that flow across the boundary of each section of paper. Takezaki’s immersive panels and environments have been included in solo and group exhibitions in Japan.
